While parenting is wonderful, it is also hard. Every parent knows that. And while some of the challenges faced by previous generations still apply today, we are experiencing entirely new challenges that have never been faced before. I’m not saying that other generations haven’t had their own struggles. Of course they have. There’s no doubt about that. However, I can think of some struggles that are entirely new. Some that come to mind are:
- As a parent, navigate social media and try not to constantly compare yourself (yourself with other parents and your children with other children).
- Make sure your children do not spend too much time in front of the screen – this no longer only applies to televisions, but also to tablets and smartphones.
- The pressure to be the perfect Pinterest mom – hosting the best crafts and birthday parties, providing organic meals and healthy and balanced after-school snacks, always saying yes to volunteering at school, etc.
- The feeling of having to stay at home so that others can not only “raise your children” but also contribute financially to the family.
- Or “Work like you don’t have kids,” but rather “Raise your kids like you don’t work.”
- Don’t give your child a phone too early (but if you do), learn about parental controls and don’t let them go on social media.
The list goes on. Since we can’t turn to our parents for help solving these problems, we have to figure it out ourselves. No one knows this better than Mrs. Modern Mom Probs herself, Tara Clark. Since 2017, she’s been shedding light (and humor) on what moms go through today. Her work helps moms feel less alone and reminds us that we’re not failing; we’re all just trying to do our best. We had to talk to Tara on the show to hear her thoughts on modern mom problems and her solutions!

Tara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Villanova University and an MBA in Media Management from the Metropolitan College of New York. She currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and son.
What did we discuss?
In this episode, we chat with Tara Clark about the struggles facing modern moms. We wanted to talk to Tara about some of the most common problems facing modern moms and solutions to help us move forward. Here are some of the questions we covered in our conversation:
- What are the most common problems faced by mothers today?
- In your experience, what strategies are there to master the balancing act between motherhood, work and private life?
- Motherhood is often idealized on social media, which can lead to comparisons and feelings of inferiority. How do you deal with this issue and what advice do you give to mothers who are struggling with it?
- The Psychological stress caused by motherhoodincluding managing household tasks, schedules and emotional labour, is a major challenge for many mothers. How do you raise awareness of this issue and what strategies do you suggest to manage the psychological burden?
- Parenting is sometimes compared to a competitive sport where you have to excel in different areas. How do you advocate for a more supportive and compassionate approach to parenting?
- How can mothers counteract the feeling of isolation?
- How do you encourage mothers to make their mental health and well-being a top priority despite the demands of parenting, especially in a culture that often glorifies busyness and self-sacrifice?
- How can modern mothers prioritize self-compassion and self-care when they feel overwhelmed or burned out?
- If you could give one piece of advice to modern mothers, what would it be?
Moms, we are human. We make mistakes. However, we must remember that we are doing our best and our best is good enough. Be more forgiving of yourself as you go through this phase of motherhood (and the next phase and the next). If you are listening to this episode, you are probably a very good mother. We hope you feel the love and support you deserve.
